Wildwood launches urgent appeal to find the rescuer of Natty the Bat

Wildwood seeks urgent help to solve the mystery of Natty the Bat

Wildwood launches urgent appeal to find the rescuer of Natty the Bat

Wildwood Trust has launched an urgent appeal to find a mysterious good Samaritan who can help to return a rescued bat to its home.

The Natterer’s bat, which has been named Natty, arrived at Wildwood via Kent Bat Group after recently being taken to a Dover vets by a concerned member of the public known only as “Dean from Ash”.  The action of this kind stranger certainly saved the animal’s life, but now Wildwood and Kent Bat Group have been left with a mystery as to where to safely return Natty to the wild.

In the wild, this rarely seen species is mainly found in woodland areas and lives in social groups which roost in trees and buildings such as churches and barns. Working in partnership with Kent Bat Group, the Wildwood Conservation team are now confident that Natty is ready to be returned to the wild. However, in order to ensure his chances of survival, he must be released back to the same area that he came from so that he can successfully find food and roosting sites.

Wildwood Conservation Officer and Kent Bat Group Trustee, Hazel Ryan said “with the bat making a good recovery, we are now desperate to return him to the wild, however we urgently need more information about where he was found in order to do this. If we don’t release Natty back to the area that he knows, he may struggle to find food or shelter and may not survive.”

Wildwood is therefore appealing to find “Dean” or anyone who can correctly identify the street or area where the bat was originally found. Information can be given anonymously as Wildwood is only concerned with finding the correct site for the bat’s release.

Are you Dean, or do you know this kind-hearted stranger? If so please contact Wildwood Trust on 01227 712 111 or email: conservation@wildwoodtrust.org
