The race is on to save baby dormice before it's too late!
| | The race is on to save baby dormice before it's too late! | | | | New scientific evidence shows the perilous state of Britain’s dormice that now, without our help, face almost certain extinction. Despite being one of our most endearing woodland mammals, its desperate plight has alarmed scientists and the situation is getting much worse! | | A gift of just £25 could mean the difference between life and death for underweight, orphaned baby dormice that would not survive without the expert care of our conservation team. | | | | Our conservation team provide the warmth, sustenance and specialist care to keep these babies alive throughout the winter. They then enter our conservation breeding centre and their offspring form part of our efforts to reintroduce them to woodlands across the UK where they have become extinct.. | | Dormice have already disappeared from many areas of Britain, despite having once been widespread. A combination of factors including climate change, habitat loss due to unsympathetic woodland management and clearance of hedgerows are some of the bigest threats they face. | | | | With your help we can stop the dormouse going extinct in Britain | | Captive breeding and reintroductions are one way to help overcome these problems. As a member of the National Dormouse Captive Breeders Group, Wildwood manages the national studbook to ensure only the healthiest, unrelated dormice are released giving them the best possible chance of survival. | | Dormouse enclosures require constant work and repair, we pay for expensive veterinary care, scientific tests and the best nutrition to ensure our dormice have the best possible chance of survival when released back into the wild. Your support will help us do so much more and will allow us to repopulate the British countryside. | | | | Thank you so much to all of our fantastic supporters who have already contributed to this appeal. With your help, we can make a difference! | | | | |
